This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, with the theme of kindness. Now more than ever, we need to look after our own mental health, and those of our friends and family, whether at work or at home.
At our weekly staff briefings, I have always encouraged our staff to pick up the phone to their 'Canham Friends'; to reach out and see how they are. This simple act of kindness can really make a difference to someone’s mental health and wellbeing.
Last week we issued a ‘Wellbeing Update’ document, which provides helpful advice and guidance that our staff can benefit from during these uncertain times. The document covers what we are doing to help support staff and what they can do for themselves. It has also provided useful links for things such as online fitness classes and financial help.
Recent events will test our mental health and our anxiety and emotions may be affected. Unfortunately, no one is immune to this, however we can look after those around us and be aware of each other’s mental health. I will continue to encourage staff to pick up the phone, check in on their friends, and be kind.
