Well it has been a challenging, bizarre, stressful and frenetic couple of weeks!
We issued a statement on 17 March, saying that it was ‘Business as Usual’. The truth of course, for every business, is that it is far from ‘Business as Usual’.
We are very fortunate in that we can deliver our projects remotely, we are communicating effectively, and we can work safely. However, this is not true for many businesses, and many industries.
All of us working in construction will notice enquiries and projects stall, or slow down. None of us will be immune to this.
However, we have been working on some exciting new projects. This gives us real hope and optimism, which is very welcomed at such an uncertain time.
The current challenges will change the face of the industry and how we all work effectively. The question is, how can we influence this over the coming weeks?
My view is that it will bring us all closer together.
Business development – we have tasked all staff throughout the business to communicate more regularly with all clients, past and present. Our staff have embraced this, rekindling old relationships, forging new ones and building trust.
Gratitude – projects don’t grow on trees! When there is a sniff of a project, it is so important that we appreciate the business and work together to deliver it!
Collaboration – we’ve all heard this word used a lot over the last couple of years, it seems to be the buzz word in construction. However, the real meaning is never more important than now. We all need to work together – clients, contractors and designers, to identify opportunities, help each other and to unlock projects. The way we collaborate and help each other now, will develop relationships between businesses for a generation.
So, in summary we are working, we are here to help and we are very keen to discuss any potential projects, regardless of scale or complexity. We are also incredibly grateful and in awe of the many businesses and volunteers, who are working on the ‘front line’ to protect us all from this terrible virus, which is responsible for affecting so many lives and causing such disruption.
All of us at Canham Consulting wish you all the very best over the coming weeks and months.
