Hellesdon Community Hub
Canham Consulting were appointed by the Lind Trust to provide engineering planning support to the proposed community hub and church building in Hellesdon.
The building is located in North Norwich and will provide community facilities for the area. The project will include the change of use of part of the site (formally a car dealership) and a new building/extension which will create 6500m² of floor space. This dramatic scheme was designed by London based architect RCKa, who provided a cohesive building layout which has been achieved by breaking the spaces down into separate zones, arranged around a new community entrance foyer.
Our involvement in the project included providing a transport statement, travel plan, flood risk assessment and phase 1 contaminated land assessment reports.
In order to support the planning application, Canham Consulting undertook traffic surveys and analysed the data to indicate to the Local Authority that the proposed use would not present abnormal traffic flows which the existing road network did not have capacity to accommodate. We also showed that land contamination and drainage were feasible through the justification of deep bore hole soakaways with suitable SUDs treatment trains.
All of the technical reports were passed without objection from the respective authorities such as the Highway Authority (Norfolk County Council), the Environment Agency and Environmental Health (Broadland District Council).
