Sustainable Drainage Solutions

Every new construction project has to provide some form of sustainable drainage solution, or at least prove why it cannot. From a drainage perspective, this means that any rainfall should be treated and disposed of as close to its source in order to be considered as sustainable.

Sustainable drainage solutions or SUDs take many forms from infiltration techniques using soakaways or swales, to the use of ponds, wetlands and swales. SUDs provide two functions; they allow water to enter the water cycle at their natural rate, therefore reducing flood risk whilst also ensuring that water quality is not affected by development.

Our experience enables us to choose the correct Sustainable Drainage Solution for the particular site through determining the on-site infiltration rate either through desk top or site testing and then provide advice on how this can be best accommodated within a development.

In addition to the examples above, we consider ourselves adept at challenging projects, and would welcome new and innovative schemes for us to test our skills! Should any of our services be of interest, please contact us via any of the methods available on our Contact Us page.

As architectural designers and planning consultants, we are often thinking outside the box when it comes to design, and often there comes a time when we require the help of a structural engineer to make our vision a reality.

It is very important to both us and our clients that we can work closely with an engineer to find a no-nonsense and practical solution to solving structural problems and that’s where our long term relationship with Canham’s hits the mark every time.

Time and time again, they have proved to be fast and reliable, and their refreshing pragmatic approach to problem solving always helps to keep our projects moving forwards with as little fuss as possible.

Breheny Civil Engineering have worked successfully with Canham Consulting on several projects. Most recently in Cambridge at the Addenbrookes Campus where Canham’s designed a pedestrian bridge foundation, terrace foundations and infrastructure design. We have also worked together on a project in Great Yarmouth where HCV routes and access design was carried out.

We are happy with the service that Canham Consulting has provided for us and look forward to working with them again.

J Breheny Contractors Ltd

We have worked with Canham Consulting for a number of years on a complex scheme, which has thrown up a number of challenges in terms of drainage engineering, flood relief and fuel storage solutions. Our Consultant is contactable, commercial, and realistic and his team have risen to the challenges to produce honest solutions to some difficult problems. We are impressed with the work and with the support that has been given to us as clients and would most definitely be utilising their service again in the future where the need arises.

They brought a wealth of knowledge and experience with them, consistently offered valued and well-considered advice. They were always prepared to go the extra mile to find workable solutions to inevitable problems. It was a joy to work with the team.
